Position Information:Position Title:Program Specialist IJob Group:Professional & ScientificRequired Minimum Qualifications:Bachelors degreeSpecial Required QualificationsDrivers LicensePreferred Qualifications:Master's Degree or Bachelor's plus 2 years of related experienceExperience working formally and informally with racially and ethnically minoritized (REM) youth populations to increase their academic success, particularly the academic success of REM males.Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating programs for REM students underrepresented in agriculture, science, technology, engineering, and math (ASTEM) or education, primarily first-generation college.Experience in higher education advising REM students and supporting the delivery of programming to meet their needs.Job Description:The ISU Student Program Coordinator will help deliver a comprehensive secondary and university program for students from racially and ethnically minoritized (REM) backgrounds. This position will be the lead coordinator of our Science Bound college programming and will develop and implement professional and academic development programming for college students. Additionally, they will support the development and delivery of culturally responsive and relevant after school pre-college programs, Saturday and summer programs, leadership programs, and retreats with an emphasis on issues as they relate to retaining REM males. A successful candidate will possess strong oral (in small and large group settings) and written communication skills. This position will also work with students and staff to create, collect, and analyze program evaluation data. Example of Duties

  • Manage college transition and retention programs, activities, and seminars for program graduates at Iowa State.
  • Provide academic support, development, and delivery of social activities, and advise students.
  • Monitor undergraduate student academic progress and help communicate with students the resources and support available.
  • Work with corporate sponsors and university units to facilitate the transition of REM undergraduates to college and beyond (career positions, graduate school).
  • Develop public relations initiatives, workshops, seminars, surveys, or other activities to promote the program and carry out its objectives.
  • The person in this position will enhance student skill development and leadership competency through assisting with the design and delivery of culturally relevant content.
  • Act as a representative of the program.
