Due to internal growth, a vacancy has arisen for a Senior Scientist, Bacterial Immunology. In this position, you will be conducting research to develop solutions, including novel entities, for the treatment and control of bacterial diseases in multiple animal species. You will be part of a team that are accountable for increasing the understanding of host immune responses to microbial insult and immunological disease mechanisms and pathogenesis and virulence mechanisms of bacteria. A key focus of the role is the design, interpretation and presentation of experiments that apply novel approaches and / or utilise new technologies, as well as performing studies that follow established approaches.You will be a part of a highly innovative, collaborative and expanding research team that is working together to deliver the next generation of solutions to prevent and control bacterial diseases (vaccines, pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical agents) building a market leading R&D pipeline addressing customers' needs towards bacterial diseases of animals.Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, design, interpret, troubleshoot and complete routine procedures independently and efficiently, as well as non-routine and difficult procedures generally without supervision
  • Propose and implement ideas using your knowledge of science and technology as well as your understanding of the research and development process
  • Independently apply basic scientific principles, attend scientific meetings and keep abreast of literature in own field
  • Effectively communicate and defend your own work, orally and in writing, in the context of the company and team goals at meetings
  • Demonstrate a contemporary level of technical proficiency in field, with the opportunity to train technicians and junior level scientists in this field
  • Report and treat data with a high level of integrity and ethics
  • Comply with applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner whilst maintaining proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies
  • Participate in cross departmental project teams when assigned
  • Ensure laboratory facility and equipment are well maintained
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant corporate, national and local authority regulationsRequirements:
    • PhD in immunology, veterinary medicine, infectious disease, bacteriology or a similar discipline OR BSc / MSc with equivalent industry experience
    • A solid immunology background with vaccine or therapeutic development experience is essential, as well as familiarity with vaccine and therapeutic development international standards
    • Contemporary and demonstrated knowledge of the bacterial immunology, genetics, molecular biology and metabolism of bacteria and their associated diseases
    • Proven track-record of peer-reviewed publications and patents
    • Excellent abilities to create written scientific reports and protocols
    • Strong verbal communication skills to clearly articulate disease research across functions
    • Good planning, prioritization, problem solving, and organizational skills
    • Legally authorized to work in the US without restrictionPreferred, not essential:
      • Pharmaceutical industry experience or an equivalent postdoc
      • Experience working in the respiratory and / or gut disease space
      • Previous experience in bovine, swine or canine immunology
