Prior experience in wireless/networking/software systems development, deployment, and/or operation is invaluable. Example of DutiesWireless systems development, deployment, and operation

  • Lead and development of a large-scale, first-of-its-kind wireless living lab encompasses bleeding-edge technologies and innovation platforms such as those for free-space optical communication, mmWave, massive MIMO, LEO satcom, URLLC, communications and networking softwarization, AR/VR, and precision agriculture
  • Deploy and operate the deployed wireless living lab in central Iowa
  • Lead a team of students, postdocs, and technical staff members in the living lab development, deployment, and operation
  • Technical project management; Project Management Professional and/or Scrum Master certification
  • Collaborate with faculty members and public-private partners in project execution
  • Systems building/research in wireless, networks, and/or distributed systems
  • Design, develop, deploy, and operate field deployed wireless, network, and/or distributed systems
  • Working with cellular network platforms (e.g., OpenAirInterface, srsLTE, ONF SD-RAN, and COMAC), edge/cloud computing platforms (e.g., OpenStack, Kubernetes), SDN, and/or VNF
  • Work with edge/cloud systems management, virtual machines/containers, Linux systems administration, shell scripting, etc.
  • Capability of building systems prototypes based on reference publications and/or open-source code base
  • Programming skills: Python, Web, C, C++, Java, etc.
  • Knowledge of wireless systems, networked/distributed systems, operating systems, virtualization, systems and network securityResearch and Funding Acquisition
    • Lead and participate in cutting-edge research that advances the frontiers of wireless systems, edge and loud computing, and rural broadband
    • Collaborate with students, postdocs, technical staff members, and public-private partners in research
    • Lead and participate in research funding acquisition activities, leading proposals to federal and state agencies as well as industry partnersLevel Guidelines Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISUs mission and department or work unit goals Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems.
